Thanks for your meticulous work. But, is time to get it updated.

Your assertions are completely misleading. The igbo language is not a major Rivers language. Rivers people are predominately ijaws. Thank you.

Igbo language is never a Rivers language, the Igbo's only live in Rivers State. And where are the likes of Emohua and Akuku Toru LGAs in your classification?

What about oyigbo people

The only Igbos I know are the Opobos

What about Etche and Egbema people are not igbo.

Typographical error What about Etche and Egbema people aren't they igbo?
Etche and Egbema people are igbo. Even some Ikwerre people claimed to be igbo originally.

Totally disagree with your assertion River predominantly Ijaw that false statement.
Ijaw just one of the tribe in River state.

Rivers state is never an Ibo speaking state, forget the fact that the Ibos invading the state as a result of trading.

Igbos never claimed your state but you should know that some ethnic groups in rivers are actually sub Igbo groups and speak igbo dialect like ikwere and ekpeye

Thanks but Degema is not part of Kalabari they have a language that is close to that of Isoko, Engenni and Epiye language.

A lot of you don't understand language and people, Igbo as language is beyond the five Eastern states in Nigeria. The language cut across many region. The Eastern Nigeria is not the owner's of the Igbo language, they got it like everyone else did. That's why they are not speaking the same version in the Eastern Nigeria. So the five State if Eastern Nigeria should stop claiming ownership of the Igbo language.

I agree with the unknown commenter above me. I am from Anambra State but I don't even understand most of the Igbos spoken in my state except for that in my town, also I don't understand most of the Igbos I other states. But a lot of things are similar in Igbo speaking towns. The former governor of rivers is ikwere, his name is Amaechi. In Igbo Amaechi means who knows or no one knows tomorrow depending on the tone.

The post is misleading, Rivers people are not in anyway ibos

is a multi lingual state but Igbo is not a major language there.

A lot of misleading information in this post on Rivers State languages. For an informed, scholarly and updated discussion of the languages of Rivers State, Google search, download and read the article "The Languages of Rivers State of Nigeria: An Overview" written by Ethelbert Emmanuel Kari, published in 2019 in Marang: Journal of Language and Literature, Volume 31,pp.1-22.

You mentioned Igbo language and still mention Ikwere,ọgba, and Ekpeye. This is misleading, these three tongues are all dialects of Igbo language, once you mention Igbo language it has covered all those dialects.
Igbo language is spoken in 12 LGAs in Rivers state, namely ,Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni,Emohua,Ikwere,Obioakpor,Port harcourt,Etche,Ọmụma,Oyigbo,Opobo,Bonny,Ahoada East and west .
It is spoken in these LGAs as a native language, while it is spoken in other areas as a second language.

Your comment is highly wrong. I am from Ahoada west LGA (Engenni)

We have no link to IGBO language.
We migrated from Old Benin Kingdom and we are IJAW people.
