Labour Gives IGP 21 Days To Redeploy Rivers CP

The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress have issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, and the Police Service Commission to redeploy the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Mbu, in order to avert an indefinite workers’ strike.

The NLC and TUC, on Friday, issued the ultimatum at a joint press briefing they organised to address the dispersing of 13,000 teachers at the Port Harcourt Liberation Stadium and the continued blockade of Obio/Akpor council secretariat.

Speaking during the event that held in Port Harcourt, the State NLC Chairman, Dr. Chris Oruge, explained that apart from the call for Mbu’s redeployment, the organised labour in the state was demanding an unreserved apology from the IGP and the state police commissioner for dispersing the teachers who came to collect their letters of posting.

Oruge said, “It will be recalled that Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu has continued to lock Obio/Akpor Local Government Council Secretariat despite a subsisting court order that the police should vacate the Obio/Akpor Local Government premises and allow the workers unrestricted access to their workplace.

“The organised labour views the action of the commissioner of police as a direct challenge to a competent order of the court and an invitation to organised labour anarchy in Rivers State.

“To this end, organised labour hereby gives 21 days ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police and the Police Service Commission to address the issues raised above expeditiously. In the alternative, the organised labour will embark on an indefinite strike action.”

Also, the State TUC Chairman, Mr. Chika Onuegbu, expressed worry that Obio/Akpor council workers had not receive their May, June, July and August salaries due to the continued closure of the secretariat by the police.

King Lexy : His Story and The UK TOUR

Alex Samson better known by this stage name King Lexy a Nigerian rap artist, he was Born to a family of two, he lived with his Grand Parents through out his school days, till he eventually moved out of the Ghetto.
Given the name Alex Samson, King Lexy never saw his biological father since the day he was born on January 4/1984 in ABU General Hospital, Kaduna. Raised by his mother and Grand Parents, Samson and Rebecca Odaudu, together with his Antis, little Lexy had developed a profound interest in melodic tunes, particularly rap music. "he always liked rapping," he admitted. "I rapped every chance he got." Calling himself little pac, he then started to join some talent competitions around his hometown at the age of 13

Life was not really easy for him while he was growing up, but due to the determination he had in life to achieve his dreams, he was able to fight it hard and rough through out his school days till he eventually graduated from College. lexy grew up to be a strong man because he had to do some kind of odd jobs just to earn a living, but that has always been a story that he will live to tell.
While growing up, he loved hip-hop & R&B and some of the artists who inspired him were Tupac, R kelly and Jay Rule . When his friends heard his perfect tenor voice, they eventually encouraged him to drop a rap and he did just that. lexy performed at many talent shows and won many prizes and awards at his younger age. lexy have also met a lot of artists with whom he have worked with behind the scenes. Along the line no one was there to support him and none believed in him and his dreams, so his grand parents whom lexy was staying with decided to encourage him to finish high school first, and then they could talk about a possible music career.

After a period of hard work and struggling, lexy eventually got a certificate in school and immediately moved to London to continue with his studies and music career. while in London, lexy stayed with his mum who further encouraged and gave me all the support he needed to achieve his dream. After achieving a huge success in the musical line, lexy eventually moved back to Nigeria to set up a malty million naira records label in Kaduna Nigeria which was known all over the city
As time goes on lexy started recording dropping mix tapes and also working on his own songs.. in 2008 lexy joined a group called (nice t cube), before dropping down to be a solo artist were he started appearing on musical videos, mix tapes, singles and also on x-tacy`s debut album 2007, as well as striking out his own single "Naija rubber band" which was a solo cut from one of lexys soundtrack. During that period, while he was working on his debut album It's Game Time, he also had other collaborations with J-blaq, A.T, Deebee Collabo, Stine Richard as well as dropping some street-level mix tapes. and his proper debut, naija rubber band, which was released by Lexy Records in 2008.

Now in Dec 2009, the single 'I Bet She Want Me' helped to make ready his first album, while In 2010 summer, he successfully dropped the 'Naija Rubber Band Remix' with various Nigerian/UK artists, before his debut album 'It's Game Time' came to be in June 2010.
JJC in 2010. Lexy was among the audience who were called to the stage at the African music award, the enthusiastic guy eagerly displayed his rhyming skills in hausa, in front of the crowd without any hesitation. Much to Lexy`s surprise, he was invited to go backstage where JJC later revealed his intention to make him part of the BigBoyz Entertainment as the Hausa Rapper.
he Gladly accepted this offer, and shortly after Lexy and JJC the C.E.O drop a hausa single "Na Who" which sold over 230.000 copies on ITunes and a great video which was shoot at Brighton beach in the U.K, he afterwards went around U.K. and Nigeria for a massive tour...

In 2011 Lexy pulled out 7.000 Fans with the "Na Who" single ft. JJC at the afro beat festival at the Hammersmith Apollo in London along side some of the top Nigerian artist like WizKid, Ice Prince, P-Square, JJC and the BigBoyz Allstars, and Banky W,
Not only gave Lexy a great experience, JJC also took him to TeeBeeO, a music producer who had previously Record artists such as JJC, Tipsy, Noni, 2kriss,and many more artists to reach their popularity. TeeBeeO Noticed his potentiality, Lexy started recording with TeebeeO to collect materials for his next album concrete jungle. During this process, TeebeeO managed to contribute his vocal in Lexy`s single "E GET AS E BE" which was the follow up song for "Na Who" 2010...
In 2011 he drop a new single with Kcee from the ex-group Kc-Presh "ROMA" which as sold over 215.000 copies on Itunes so far. and he also went on tour in U.K/Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Dubai and other counties with a great stage performance.

in 2011 October And he waxes romantic on "Make You Dey GO," which features R&B stars. Klever Jay & J-Tunez. "It's me talking to a lady I knew back when I didn't have much," he says. "We knew each other and we always felt like it was an attraction, but she was dealing with somebody who had way more than him, who could do way more for her at the time. But now I'm like, 'What he got that I ain't got besides you right now? Time will tell, so get it right'."
Lexy would likely rise to be one of the most influential rappers in Nigerian music industry, King Lexy could also strive to be a celebrated screen star as well. Included in the cast of "Street Star" Lexy have made a lavish deal with God to lead its sitcom, "Lexy" (2013), in which he set to portray none other than himself. A successful artist with a list of accomplishment behind him, he really has surpassed the guys of his generation to embrace world's recognition. his currently working on his next album "Concrete Jungle" that will feature other artists like JJC Skillz, 2face, 9ice, Kcee, Ice Prince, Dee Bee Collabo, J-Tunez, Davido, Klever Jay, Noni, Tipsy, Sainty, Blue Villa, Wacomzy, e.t.c
lexy work so hard to come so far he said i thank my star. In life we live to learn, and i learnt that the only way you could get anywhere in life is to belive in God and work hard towards it. Whether you're a musician, a writer, an athlete or a businessman, there is no getting around it. If you do, you'll win-if you don't, you loose.

2015: Impeachment Hunters And The Moving Targets

Our lawmakers have a lot to learn from Atamátàsé, the mythical hunter who never missed a target. Any animal he aimed his gun at eventually became a dead meat. There are three things Nigerian lawmakers need to know about this hunter. First, he did not come about his skills overnight. He acquired it over the course of his professional training and practice as a hunter. Second, hunting was his primary job; that was what he did for a living. Third, the animals he hunted were game–humans redesigned them for food and caught them by hunting.

It’s a different story with our lawmakers for whom hunting down high stake politicians, by impeaching them,is a seasonal fever that catches on only when some election is around the corner. It is a political game used to force certain politicians into the mainstream or force them out. That’s why, as the preparations for the 2015 general elections began to heat up, there have been talks about, or attempts at, impeaching one major politician or the other, including President Goodluck Jonathan; Senate President David Mark; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; and  the Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi.

The details of the various impeachment plots are not as important as of their links to President Jonathan, the leader of the mainstream, who seems to be fighting a battle of his life for reelection in 2015. It is unclear why he has declined to declare his 2015 intention, despite the sage urge to do so by his octogenarian adviser, Chief Tony Anenih. What is clear is that Jonathan is facing a barrage of opposition forces within his party, all of them assuming that he will run for reelection in 2015, contrary to their own (so far hidden) agenda.

The hypocrisy in Jonathan’s silence about 2015 is revealed in his actions, especially since the chairmanship election of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum in May, 2013, which was won by Governor Amaechi. Since that time, Amaechi and his sympathisers within the Peoples Democratic Party have become targets of political exorcism—they are punished or threatened with suspension, expulsion, or even imprisonment (without trial!). The result is the perception that Jonathan and the entire leadership of the PDP are making every effort to stifle dissent and the exercise of freewill by any member or group of members within his party.

The result is a series of confrontations between Jonathan and the leaders of the dissenting groups within his party, culminating in the splinter group that goes by the name, the New PDP. It is unclear whether this group is behind the failed attempt to impeach Jonathan. There is no doubt, however, that it is the one blowing the whistle about attempts by the Old PDP to impeach key politicians opposed to Jonathan or perceived to be so.

Since its whistleblowing has not been completely dismissed by the Old PDP, it has to be taken seriously. But then, both Old and New PDP are birds of the same feather, each strategising for advantage toward 2015. From all indications, the Old PDP may not have the votes to impeach anybody. Neither is the New PDP, as presently constituted, although its membership seems to be widening. The whole impeachment hunting may therefore be dismissed as nothing but a political charade.

Well, not so fast. True, no one may be impeached at the end of the day, but impeachment threats serve as a mode of intra-party communication within the PDP: Join us or play ball, or else you will face the consequences. Nor should the nuisance value of impeachment hunting be easily dismissed. From the Presidency to the hallowed halls of the legislative chambers, everyone has been scheming at the expense of governance or legislative work. In essence, the lame duck session has started, preparatory to the 2015 general elections. It is a period in our political culture when governance is sacrificed for all kinds of political games aimed at gaining advantage in the party primary. The fact that it is starting this early is indicative of the stakes attached to the 2015 elections.

To be sure, factionalism around election time is the staple of the PDP. It has survived such factions in the past and gone on to win elections. This was particularly true of the era of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, whose strategy was to prevent a climax from occurring. Thus, he forced Vice-President Atiku Abubakar out of the party and got other presidential aspirants to step down before the 2007 primary.

The reverse is the case with Jonathan. He often acted after the climactic event. Thus, he waited until the NGF election was conducted and won before he took action against Amaechi. Similarly, he went into a party convention, knowing full well about ongoing intra-party disputes  and without securing other public spaces, like the Yar’Adua Centre, which allowed a faction to walk out and hold its own convention there simultaneously. The hard truth Jonathan must now deal with is that times have changed. Given the electoral preparedness of the people, it will be difficult to rig the presidential election in 2015. That’s why Jonathan needs more than ever before to reconcile the warring factions within his party in order to secure the nomination in the first place.

Given the aversion to rigging in the general elections, Jonathan will need more than the support of his party to win. That’s why he needs to learn about a certain aspect of Antonio Gramsci’s theory of hegemony, which emphasises the need for leaders to build and maintain a coalition of interests across “historical blocs”in order to maintain and retain power. For present purposes, entities such as political parties, ethnic groups, and religious groups may be regarded as “historical blocs”. Rather than stake all his fortunes in a PDP, whose popularity has been dwindling by the day, Jonathan should learn from three other members of his party, who have operationalised this aspect of Gramsci’s theory of hegemony to advantage.

In 2003, Obasanjo successfully, if only mischievously, built a coalition with the Alliance for Democracy, and, with its assistance, won the presidential election. The current Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, used a similar tactic in 2011. He floored the PDP establishment candidate, by building a coalition with members of the opposition parties in the House. Amaechi would capitalise on a similar coalition in 2013 to defeat the PDP establishment candidate in the NGF chairmanship election. The lesson here for Jonathan is clear: He must not only consolidate support within his own party, by carrying everyone along, he must also reach out beyond his party.

Rebel govs, Atiku May Face PDP Disciplinary Panel

The seven aggrieved governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party may be summoned to appear before the disciplinary committee of the party if they fail to attend the October 7 meeting with some selected leaders of the party, including President Goodluck Jonathan.

The rebel governors, party leaders and the President had met on September 15, where they agreed to keep  discussing  and  that parties in the dispute should  stop further inflammatory statements on the areas of disagreement.

Governors in the New PDP, who were at the meeting were Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Rabiu Kwankwanso(Kano), Murtala Nyako(Adamawa), Sule Lamido(Jigawa), Abdulfatah Ahmed(Kwara) and Babangida Aliyu(Niger).

The Governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Wamakko,  was the only member of  G-7 not at the meeting.

Those who came from the Bamanga Tukur camp were Liyel Imoke(Cross River), Godswill Akpabio(Akwa Ibom) and Idris Wada(Kogi).

President Jonathan, his deputy, Namadi Sambo and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, were also at the meeting.

Apart from the governors, others in their group who have formed the  New PDP are  a former Vice-President,  Atiku Abubakar and some former governors like Bukola Saraki(Kwara), Shaba Lafiagi (Kwara) and Abdulahhi Adamu (Nasarawa).

It was gathered that if the governors remained adamant and no agreement was reached after the October 7 meeting,  the party might summon the governors and their backers to appear before the disciplinary committee.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, had said that the party was not afraid of wielding  the big stick.

Metuh, during  a question and answer session after his press briefing in Abuja on Friday had said, “We have seriously taken into account steps taken as well as the gravity of utterances credited to our brothers, especially in the wake of our last reconciliation meeting.

“We therefore wish to state for the avoidance of doubt that the fact that our leaders have chosen the path of caution and decorum, does not in any way suggest that we are afraid of the consequences of doing otherwise.

“We have only applied wisdom that, yes, we have the strength of a lion but better, when not applied needlessly”.

A reliable source in the PDP, said on Monday that the October 7  meeting might be the last time for the aggrieved members of the party to make up with the party’s hierarchy.

The source, who spoke with select journalists in Abuja on Monday said, “Everybody knows that there is no faction within the party. All these so- called crises are driven by the 2015 contest.

“Even, when they met with the President, none of them could pinpoint one tangible area of grievance and the party cannot go ahead like this. There must be discipline and a bad precedent should not be allowed. We cannot go on like this. If these people want to go, let them go.”

However, the National Publicity Secretary of the Baraje faction of the party, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, told our correspondent on the telephone that his group would wait for Tukur and his men to take the action.

He, however, said that it would be wrong for the action to be taken, wondering how the PDP would want to discipline those considered not to be part of it.

He said, “We won’t say anything until when that happens. We will wait for them to carry out the action before we strike.

“But, who will they summon? Which party would do that? Let us see how that would be done.”

Meanwhile, there are also indications that the party may remove Dr. Umaru Dikko as the chairman of  its Disciplinary Committee.

Dikko, who was a former Minister of Transport in the Second Republic, is said to be hospitalised  in a London hospital.

The committee was constituted on July 29, but the absence of Dikko in the country due to ill health, has made it impossible for the  committee to be inaugurated.

Apart from Dikko, others named as members of the committee are Amalete. J. Turner(Deputy Chairman), Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Shuaib Oyedokun, Nana Kadiri, Hussaini Diraki and Senator Emmanuel Agboti.

It was however not clear if the Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Uche Secondus, would  be allowed to chair the committee.

Until now, occupiers  of the office were usually allowed to head the committee.

But both Secondus and Turner are from the same geo-political zone, the South-South.

PDP’ll survive the present crisis — Senator

In this interview with JOHN ALECHENU, a member of the ‘new’ Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Danladi Sankara, speaks about the crisis within the PDP and suggests the way forward. Excerpts:

Did you have a meeting where you arrived at the decision to align with the governors in the new PDP?

All of us who signed that statement are with our governors 100 per cent! There is no exception. Whoever you see his or her name on that list is on board, you don’t have to ask questions. For example, my name was the second on the list. I can assure you that if there is anything more than 100 per cent, I am in support of the decision taken by my governor over the issue. I can say the same for my colleagues. You can also be rest assured that we represent many senators who feel the same way. I don’t even know why you are asking this question,

These are political times, someone could issue a statement in the name of a group somebody may come out to dissociate himself from it… (cuts in)

We are all free adults who out of our own free will decided to join people to serve our people. For instance, in my own case I am from Jigawa State, I share the same political ideology and vision with my governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido. Where he stands on this issue is where I stand, there is no question about it. So, I don’t see this as an issue that should give anyone sleepless nights. All we are asking for are reforms to return the party to the ideals of its founding fathers because the situation now is that some people are trampling on the rights of members. We suggest reforms which will make the party better and stronger. We are in a democracy, not a dictatorship and in democracy, members of any political party have every right not only to ask questions but also to suggest reforms. What is wrong with that? Politics is all about ideas, we elected these leaders in the first place, if we observe that they are derailing from the basic tenets of the party, we have a right to come out and demand changes. It is in the military that a leader gives a command: do this, and followers will say yes sir! Without asking questions. It is not so in democracy. In a democracy a leader can say this and someone down the ladder says no, this is not correct and based on superior logic, a change is made. This is what some people refuse to understand, we have a right to say things are going wrong and come out to offer advice and proffer solutions, and it is our duty as loyal members of the party. This party is ours, it does not belong to the opposition and it is ours till this day.

Is there any move to approach the Independent National Electoral Commission for registration?

The issue now is that, to have a faction in a political party is not a crime, not just the PDP. The faction we have in the PDP today is one that seeks the improvement of the PDP, this is a democracy for God’s sake, and no one should beat you up and deny you the right to cry.

… But members of the new PDP have gone to court?

Well, if a matter is in Court, all parties to the dispute will have to wait for the outcome of the court process, so I cannot comment on the process.

Will the crisis in your party not open a floodgate of defections into opposition political parties?

The PDP is different from any other party in Nigeria, we are still members of the PDP in spite of whatever challenges we are having at the moment. It is an internal matter, our internal wrangling is our business. It does not provide any opportunity for the opposition to have a say in our affairs. It is entirely our business, it is possible we resolve our issues; it is possible we do things our way but it does not concern the opposition at all, they should mind their business. We remain in our party because it is our party they should not rejoice because we have no plans to defect.

Our current challenges may sound new to those in opposition but to us in the PDP, such disagreements are normal. We have survived crisis of this nature before, we have the capacity to do it again. It’s too early for our detractors to celebrate.

The PDP national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, recently referred to the seven governors and those of you who support them as rascals. What do you make of this?

Where I come from, we have respect for our elders. We don’t trade insults. However, when an elder begins to behave like a toddler, you know something is wrong. Politics is not madness; it is a game of numbers and a marketplace of ideas. Name calling will not solve the problem. The tenure of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur is the worst in the history of our party; the party has not suffered this kind of humiliation since it was created in 1998. In fact, where was Bamanga when the PDP was being formed? Let me ask you a question, where in the world have you heard that 16 is greater than 19? It is sad and regrettable that instead of addressing issues, Tukur and his people are chasing shadows.

What is the way forward?

All those involved in the crisis know what to do to bring this crisis to an end. But are these things being done? There are actions taken which are unconstitutional; a reversal of such actions will be a good start.

PDP Crisis: Jonathan, Anenih meet rival PDP governors

Both factions to meet again on October 7.
Leaders of the two factions of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, met on Sunday night at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The late night meeting was presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan and attended by Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Tony Anenih.
The meeting was attended by the seven governors in the new PDP faction led by Abubakar Baraje including Governors Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Abdulfattah Ahmed (Kwara), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), and Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto).
Two governors from the Bamanga Tukur-led PDP- Liyel Imoke (Cross River) and Idris Wada (Kogi)- were also in attendance.
At the end of the meeting, the two factions were urged to desist from uttering further inflammatory statements capable of widening the divide while efforts are ongoing to resolve the crisis.
The meeting, held at the First Lady’s conference room, Presidential Villa, Abuja, ended with both parties agreeing to convene again on October 7.
After the meeting, Messrs Jonathan, Sambo, Amaechi, Aliyu, Kwankwaso, and Anenih briefed the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on the outcome of the meeting.
“All parties have undertaken to commence immediate actions and agreed towards a complete resolution of all matters and to continue to meet until all processes towards full reconciliation are concluded. The meeting will continue on Monday, October 7, 2013,” Mr. Aliyu said.
“Leaders and stakeholders and the governors of Adamawa, Niger, Rivers, Sokoto, Jigawa, Akwa Ibom, Kogi and Cross River states met with the president, the Vice President and the chairman of the board of trustees and extensively deliberated on various issues over a three day period.
“The discussions were cordial and fruitful with a clear commitment on both sides to resolve all the issues raised at the meetings, the meeting also called on all parties to sheath their swords and avoid further inflammatory comments on all issues, particularly during the course of our deliberations as efforts are being made to resolve all differences.
“We use this opportunity, therefore, to thank all members of our party and supporters for the patience and understanding,” he added.
Meanwhile, the first crack in the rank of the Baraje-led PDP emerged on Sunday as the National Treasurer of the faction, Tanko Gwamna, resigned from its National Working Committee.
Mr. Gwamna also pledged his loyalty to Mr. Tukur, saying the current impasse did not augur well of the development of the party.
In a statement made available to journalists, Mr. Gwamna said he arrived at his decision after studying the unfolding events in the polity and a deep sober reflection of the consequences of the outcome of such impasse on the party.
He noted that as a lover of democracy, he is of the belief that the current impasse will not augur well for unity, peace, progress and prosperity of the PDP and Nigeria.
In the statement, Mr. Gwamna enjoined PDP supporters nationwide to unite and ensure the amicable resolution of the current impasse.
